U.S. Senate Proposes Phasing Out Solar & Wind Tax Credits by 2028

The U.S. Senate is advancing a draft budget bill to phase out solar and wind production tax credits by 2028—gradually reducing them to 0%—while preserving incentives for hydropower, nuclear, and geothermal through 2033–2036.

In a significant policy shift, the U.S. Senate tax committee has drafted legislation to cut solar and wind energy tax credits to 60% by 2026, fully phasing them out by 2028. Meanwhile, credits for hydropower, nuclear, and geothermal would remain at full value until 2033 and phase out by 2036  . The proposal also eliminates residential energy credits and wind turbine transferability, triggering concern among clean energy advocates.
