U.S. Power Line Approvals Unlock Massive Solar and Storage Projects
The U.S. Department of the Interior has approved new high-capacity transmission lines, enabling significant solar and storage developments in Nevada.

The Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has approved the construction of the Greenlink West transmission line, a 350-mile project set to unlock 4 GW of solar capacity in Nevada. Construction is slated to begin in early 2025, with completion expected by May 2027. This initiative will connect key solar and storage projects, including Arevia Power’s Libra facility and developments by NextEra Energy and Candela Resources, to the grid. The Biden administration supports these efforts as part of a broader goal to decarbonize the power grid by 2035, having approved significant transmission and renewable energy projects. BLM’s expanded Western Solar Plan and streamlined processes aim to facilitate efficient project development, with the designated area growing from 22 to 31 million acres. This initiative is crucial to meet Nevada’s renewable energy targets and address increasing power demand. Read more.
