The Clarke Creek Wind Farm in central Queensland, developed by Squadron Energy, features 100 wind turbines expected to generate 450MW of electricity, sufficient to power 330,000 homes. The project spans 76,000 hectares and has resulted in the clearing of 350 hectares of koala habitat, raising environmental concerns. Despite these impacts, Squadron insists that environmental protection is their priority, clearing only minimal land while ensuring compliance with stringent guidelines. The farm is part of a broader debate on balancing renewable energy development with environmental preservation, particularly regarding wildlife impacts. Proponents suggest relocating projects to less biologically sensitive areas like the interiors of Queensland and NSW. The first stage of Clarke Creek Wind Farm is near completion, and its operation will significantly reduce carbon emissions. The Queensland government-owned Stanwell has committed to a 15-year power purchase agreement for the generated electricity. Read more.
