Renewable Electricity to Overtake Fossil Fuels in UK This Year
For the first time, renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and hydropower are projected to provide more of the UK’s electricity than fossil fuels in 2024.

According to analysis by Ember, renewables are expected to account for about 37% of the UK’s electricity generation, surpassing the 35% from fossil fuels. Wind power is on track to overtake natural gas as the largest single source of electricity generation. This marks a significant shift from a decade ago when gas and coal comprised nearly 60% of the UK’s power mix.
