India Achieves 50% Non‑Fossil Power Capacity Five Years Ahead of Target
India has reached 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources—solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear—marking a major milestone well ahead of its 2030 clean energy goal.

According to government data, India’s non-fossil power capacity will hit the 50% mark as of mid‑July 2025—five years ahead of its 2030 target under the Paris Agreement. The first half of 2025 saw its fastest clean power growth since 2022, adding 16.3 GW of solar and wind capacity. Coal-powered generation fell by nearly 3%, although fossil fuels still accounted for most of the rise in electricity output. India is now aiming for 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030 and is scaling up battery storage, green hydrogen, and component recycling to deepen its energy transition. Read more.
