Global energy transition investment exceeded $2 trillion last year, report shows
China raced ahead building renewable energy last year, installing more wind and solar power than ever before and continuing to leave all other countries in the dust.

In 2024, China achieved a record-breaking expansion in renewable energy by installing 357 gigawatts of wind and solar power, marking a 45% increase in solar and an 18% rise in wind capacity compared to the end of 2023. This rapid development enabled China to surpass its 2030 target of 1,200 gigawatts of renewable energy six years ahead of schedule. Despite being the world’s largest contributor to climate change due to its heavy reliance on coal for electricity, cement production, and manufacturing, China’s significant investment in renewables underscores its commitment to enhancing energy and climate security.Read more.
