Community Solar Projects Expand Access to Renewable Energy in D.C.
Community Renewable Energy Facilities (CREFs) are increasing in Washington, D.C., allowing residents to participate in solar energy generation and benefit from reduced electricity costs.

As of the end of 2021, there were 219 certified CREFs in the city, a significant increase from just 12 in 2019. These projects contribute to the District’s renewable energy targets and provide cost savings to participants. The Public Service Commission oversees the certification and regulation of these facilities, ensuring they meet the required standards and effectively serve the community. Read more.
