BP’s Morven Wind Farm at Risk of Missing Start Date
BP’s Morven offshore wind project in the UK faces potential delays due to grid connection queues and supply chain shortages.

The Morven wind farm, located 38 miles north of Aberdeen, is designed to have a capacity of 2.9 gigawatts, sufficient to power three million UK homes. However, challenges in securing grid connections and obtaining necessary turbines and electrical components threaten its planned 2030 operational date. BP, in partnership with Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW), is also developing two other offshore wind farms, Mona and Morgan in the Irish Sea, which have already secured grid connections. These projects collectively aim to contribute to the UK’s goal of achieving 50GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. Read more.

Wind Power Made More Practical with 3D Printing
UC Irvine’s AM³ Lab is deploying robotic 3D printing of novel concrete materials—eliminating traditional formwork and on-site casting—to build ultra-tall wind-turbine towers and components, reducing steel use, labor, and transport challenges while enabling advanced designs for both onshore and offshore applications.
