Apartment Buildings Wrap Up $1B in HUD Funds for Lower Utility Bills and Climate Upgrades

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has completed the distribution of over $1 billion to modernize older apartment buildings for low-income renters, enhancing energy efficiency and climate resilience.

This initiative, part of the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program under the Inflation Reduction Act, funds upgrades such as energy-efficient windows, heaters, air conditioners, solar panels, and structural fortifications against extreme weather. Significant allocations have been made to properties nationwide, including New Orleans’ St. John Berchman’s Manor and Pittsburgh’s Crafton Towers, impacting over 30,000 rental homes across 42 states.
